St. Andrews United Church

Committees

If you are interested in being a member of one of these committees, please contact the chairperson or our minister.

FAITH FORMATION (Day Merrill)

The Faith Formation Committee offers opportunities for personal and communal growth and development through a range of activities.  Activities include Church School, confirmation, youth, prayer and lectionary groups.  At different times during the year, we also host discussion groups exploring books, movies and personal experiences.  Please let us know how we can support your journey of faith.

CHURCH SCHOOL & YOUTH GROUP (Stephen Gallant)

Church School happens every Sunday morning during worship.  It is a time and space for Children and Youth to gather, listen and reflect on a Biblical story. It is a time for questions, crafts, activities, singing and much more.
Youth Group on Friday nights takes a variety of forms; however, we tend to gather around 6 p.m. in the kitchen where we cook food and share in a meal. From there we may watch a movie, talk about youth issues or work on a reflective piece to be shared with the whole St. Andrew’s community on Sunday mornings.

MEMBERSHIP (Elizabeth Mowat)

The Membership Committee provides administrative and spiritual support to the congregation.  Each Sunday morning greeters are on hand to welcome people as they arrive.  The Welcome Table provides hearing devices, large print bulletins and name tags, and new people are encouraged to sign the Visitors’ Book.  Volunteers provide assistance during the hospitality hour which follows the church service.
On a regular basis the Pastoral Care team members visit and phone those under their care, and send cards twice a year.  They also report to the minister those who are ill or need special care.  Communion is administered four times a year.
The Circle of Friends consists of members of the congregation interested in extending hospitality and demonstrating care for each other.  Friendship Representatives have contact at least twice a year with the individuals in their groups.  There may be more frequent contact at church, over coffee or a meal, or by phone.

COMMUNICATIONS (Melody Gaukel)

The committee helps drive awareness and participation within the St. Andrew’s family while engaging the community around us by showcasing St. Andrew’s diverse culture. Members of this committee often do special events, logistics and material production and design.  The committee is also responsible for maintaining the website, Cornerstone news letter, and helping other committees with their marketing communication needs.
Ministry & Personnel (Katherine Corlett)
The M & P Committee provides support for the staff.  It reviews job descriptions, working conditions and salaries for the staff and oversees the relationship of the staff to the congregation and other staff members. Annual job reviews are held and members of the staff are encouraged to attend continuing education courses that will benefit them in their work.

STEWARDSHIP & OUTREACH (Deborah & Jamie Scott)

The focus of this committee is to raise awareness within the congregation of the Christian call to serve our community and to recognize members’ potential to contribute. The committee serves two primary functions: to promote responsible stewardship of our financial,  environmental and human resources and using the resources available, to raise awareness and to engage the congregation in Outreach initiatives to meet the needs of our immediate community.

TRUSTEES (Martin Campbell)

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the property of St. Andrew’s and holds the property in trust for both the Congregation and the larger church.  The Board is composed of six members of the church who hold office for a term of three years and our Minister.

UNITED CHURCH WOMEN (Coreen Howard)

The purpose of the U.C.W is to unite women of the congregation for the mission of the Church and to provide a medium through which they may express their loyalty and devotion to the United Church of Canada.   There are two units: the Book Club and the Hunter-Page group.  The Book Club meets every two months on the 3rd Wednesday for lunch, devotions and to review books and movies.  The Hunter-Page group meets each month on the 1st Tuesday for lunch, devotions and speakers.

PRESBYTERY REPRESENTATIVES (Michael Kennedy & Michael Locey)

The Presbytery representative represents the congregation at the second level of the United Church governing system. There are fifty-five congregations in our presbytery, and includes the reps as well as the ministers for each congregation from the presbytery.
