St. Andrews United Church

Strategic Planning Day

You Are Invited!

Congregational Strategic Planning Day – 10:00 am, Saturday, October 1st

Like the ancient apostolic church St. Andrew’s United is evolving and we find ourselves at a pivotal point in our community life. As a way of understanding the present and the future we would like to suggest that there are basically three kinds of churches;

   1) Churches that make things happen.

    2) Churches that watch things happen.

    3) Churches that wonder what the heck happened?

The change and growth that we have experienced over the last few years presents some wonderful challenges and important decisions that need to be made by the congregation. St. Andrew’s has embarked on an exciting new phase in its development. In the spring the Church Council struck a Strategic Planning committee made up of; Murray Corlett, Anne Hughes, Michael Locey, Melody Gaukel, Rev. Mark MacLean.

We invite you to participate in our Strategic Planning Day from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 1st,  here at the Church with lunch provided.  Strategy without execution is fantasy; execution without strategy is chaos; faithful strategy, assertively pursued builds community.

 As part of the process we recently completed a full committee dialogue and congregational survey. One of the most important results from our survey is that 80% of our respondents felt that their worshipping and spiritual life at St. Andrew’s impacts their daily life outside of this “Sanctuary In The City”.

Some strategic decisions may involve large changes while others may appear small but may have a large impact. We must approach everything with a questioning mind and open heart asking ourselves: Where is the Holy Spirit taking us? In a dramatically changing world, there is not just one way to be the church, the Body of Christ for the world.

It is our hope that this Strategic Planning Process will help us be a church that makes things happen so that we can continue to meet the needs of our congregation, the community around us and the wider world.  So please join us on October 1st!  Strategic planning is about making choices, as we do not have the resources, human or financial, to do everything – we need to hear your voice!
